Call for Applications for Admission to PhD Programmes a.y. 2026/2027

This page provides detailed information on the Calls for Applications for admission to PhD programmes at the University of Pisa for the academic year 2026/2027 (42nd cycle). It also provides guidance on how to apply.

For the 42nd cycle, two Calls for Applications are envisaged:

Duration: all PhD programmes last three years

Start date: 1 November 2026

How to Apply

To apply, you must hold by 31 October 2026 one of the following:

  • a Master’s degree (Laurea Magistrale)
  • an equivalent foreign qualification

Foreign degrees must be comparable in level and content. The Selection Committee will assess eligibility. You are strongly advised to include supporting documents, such as:

  • Diploma Supplement
  • Declaration of Value
  • ENIC-NARIC certificate

Any specific requirements are set out in the individual programme descriptions attached to the official Call for Applications.

The PhD grant amounts to:

  • €16,243.00 per year (gross amount)

PhD candidates are also entitled to:

  • a research budget (at least 10% of the grant) for carrying out research activities in Italy and abroad
  • a 50% increase in the grant amount for research periods abroad (up to 12 months)

PhD candidates are exempt from university tuition fees and are only required to pay the annual regional tax of €140.00.
