How to Apply for a PhD Call – Quick Guide

Deadline: 8 June 2026, 1:00 p.m. (CEST). Read the Call for Applications, the individual PhD programme here.

CALL B

Deadline: 10 August 2026, 1:00 p.m. (CEST). Read the Call for Applications and the individual PhD programme here.

Important information: always check the deadline of the relevant Call (CALL A or CALL B) and complete the application within the specified time limit.

Step 1: Read the Call and follow the guide

Before starting the application:

• Read the Call for Applications carefully
• Check the description of the selected PhD programme
• Review the individual PhD programme information pages

Use the practical guide to complete the online application correctly.

Step 2: Register on the Alice portal

If you have not done so yet, register on the Alice Portal.

Important information: enter your personal details carefully, as they must exactly match those on the ID document uploaded during the online application process.

If you have already used the University of Pisa online services, go directly to step 3.

Step 3: Online application

Login to the Alice Portal using your credentials, complete the application form and upload the required documents:

• CV (signed)
• Research proposal (if required)
• Self-declaration of employment (Annex 1), for public employees only
• Self-declaration of degree (Annex 2)
• Employer’s declaration (Annex 3), for candidates applying under employment agreements
• Self-declaration for scholarship eligibility (Annex 4)
• VIDEO form (only if required in the specific PhD programme description)
• For foreign qualifications: degree certificate and any required documentation (Art. 3 of the Call for Applications)

Only if requested, provide the names and contact details (email and phone number) of academic referees.

Failure to upload references does not result in exclusion. Each selection process requires a separate CV.

Step 4: Application fee payment of €30.00

Pay the application fee by 11:59 p.m. (CEST) on the deadline date of the relevant Call, using the PagoPA system (available at the end of the online application procedure).

The payment is made only once, even when applying for multiple selections within the same PhD programme. It is non-refundable, except in cases explicitly stated in the Call.

Important information: if the payment has been made but has not yet been fully processed, admission will be granted with reservation, subject to verification.

Step 5: Application receipt and pre-enrolment ID number

At the end of the procedure:

• keep the application receipt, which serves as proof of successful registration for the Call
• note your pre-enrolment ID number, which is required to anonymously access the results of the CV assessment and examinations published on the Alice portal
