The THE ranking is based on performance indicators covering all aspects of university activity: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. In the 2026 edition (results published in 2025), the University of Pisa maintains its position in the 351–400 band, with its strongest results in the research environment, particularly due to increased research productivity. Its main area for improvement remains internationalisation. Both the QS WUR and THE WUR rankings rely on reputation surveys (involving academics and employers), which reveal areas of concern for the University of Pisa and highlight the need to strengthen its international image.
In the latest THE by Subject, Pisa achieved its best result in Arts & Humanities (176–200), while Computer Science, Medical & Health, and Physical Sciences are all ranked within the top 300.
