Proof of Concept (PoC) calls are funding instruments that support the early stages of a project. They enable an idea to be translated into a concrete proof of concept, assessing its technical, scientific and commercial feasibility, and lay the groundwork for the development of a market-ready product or service.
In some cases, the University of Pisa directly funds Proof of Concept calls, which increase the technological maturity of inventions arising from research and promote their development in collaboration with the business sector.
At the same time, the University monitors and participates in national calls dedicated to technology transfer, thereby expanding support opportunities for its research outcomes.
These calls also provide support through mentoring, specialised consultancy, and access to infrastructure and laboratories, helping teams to raise the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of their future product, reduce risks and consolidate the foundations for future success.
Proof of Concept (PoC) Call – Spark Pisa
The Proof of Concept (PoC) Call – Spark Pisa funds innovative research projects at the University of Pisa with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) between 3 and 5, supporting the transition from idea to a functional prototype and promoting technology transfer to industry and the market.
Active since 2019 and part of the international Spark Global network founded by Stanford University, the programme supports research in the medical-pharmaceutical, diagnostic and computational fields, with particular attention to unmet clinical needs.
The University of Pisa is part of the SPARK GLOBAL network
Since 2019, it has funded research groups to help bring innovative drugs or diagnostic tools from research laboratories to their effective use in patient care.
