Students and PhD students who do not live in the reference area of the Azienda USL Toscana Nord Ovest can access all the services of the primary health care system as follows:
- by establishing a healthcare domicile in Pisa, which allows you to be included in the patient registry of the Azienda Toscana Nord Ovest and, therefore, to choose a general practitioner
- by using the occasional paid visits of general practitioners who are affiliated with the Toscana Nord Ovest area;
- during the closing hours of general practitioners’ surgeries, by contacting the on-call doctor service of the Azienda Toscana Nord Ovest (for a fee for non-resident students or students without a healthcare domicile in Tuscany).
The healthcare domicile
The period of healthcare domicile lasts from a minimum of three months to a maximum of one year and is renewable throughout the university career.
In order to apply for a healthcare domicile and choose a doctor, you must go to the USL counters with the following documents:
- self-certification of residence;
- certificate of suspension from your general practitioner (to be requested from the local health authority of your place of residence);
- certificate of attendance of the courses (also university transcript or proof of payment of the tuition fees).
Alternative healthcare for students and PhD students who do not live in the municipality of Pisa and who did not change their healthcare domicile
Students and PhD students who do not live in the municipality of Pisa and who decided not to move their healthcare domicile can use the healthcare service provided by a doctor in the area of Pisa.
To subscribe to the service or renew your membership, log in to the dedicated portal or access the Agenda Didattica portal.
After paying the required contribution (€15 per year), you can choose one of the general practitioners in the Pisa area who have joined the service.
You can then see the doctor of your choice for free check-ups, either in the clinic or at home.
The service is provided thanks to the collaboration between the University of Pisa, USL Toscana Nord Ovest and the General Practitioners of Pisa.
