Enrolling at Unipi

EU and non-EU citizens who have obtained their qualifications in Italy enrol in accordance with standard procedures for Bachelor’s and Single-Cycle Degree Courses, for Master’s Degree Courses, for Post-graduate Degree Courses and for Specialty Schools.

In order to enrol at the University of Pisa, citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Swiss Federation and non-European citizens already legally present in Italy, as expressly indicated in art. 39, paragraph 5, of Legislative Decree no. 286 of 25 July 1998, must follow the procedures indicated in the following pages. 

Non-EU citizens in Italy with a residence permit as referred to in Article 39(5) of Legislative Decree 286/1998 are treated as EU citizens for registration purposes. 

That is, holders of residence permit: 

  • EU long-term residents 
  • for employment 
  • for self-employment 
  • for family reasons 
  • for asylum 
  • for subsidiary protection 
  • other types of permits indicated in the above-mentioned legislation.

Other subjects treated as EU citizens for the purposes of registration are: 

  • foreigners who have been resident for at least one year and have an upper secondary school qualification obtained in Italy 
  • foreigners, wherever they reside, who hold final diplomas from Italian schools abroad or from foreign or international schools operating in Italy or abroad that are the subject of bilateral agreements or special regulations for the recognition of qualifications and meet the general conditions required for entry for study

Non-EU citizens applying for a visa must pre-register for a degree course on the UniversItaly Portal.

For enrolment in its courses, the University of Pisa requires proof of Italian language proficiency.

University fees and scholarships  

 Pre-University Schooling

To enrol at the University of Pisa, it is necessary to have completed at least 12 years of schooling overall, including primary school, lower secondary school (if applicable), and high school. 

Degrees must include at least the last two years of successful attendance in the foreign education system.
