DSU Scholarship

The DSU Toscana scholarship provides financial support to eligible students. The amount varies based on economic conditions and student status (on-site, commuter or off-site, depending on distance and travel time to the university).

• Deadline: 5 September 2025 
• Applications must be submitted online through the “Sportello Studente” portal

What the scholarship includes

The DSU grant provides:

• exemption from tuition fees 
• free allocation of accommodation in university residences or rent subsidy (if you are a student living away from home) 
• free meals in DSU canteens   
• a monetary allowance to cover extra expenses (sports activities, books, etc.) 

Types of programmes supported

DSU scholarship is available for the following study programmes: 

• Bachelor’s degree and Single cycle Bachelor’s Degree courses 
• Master’s degree courses 
• Specialization courses compatible with DSU grant 
• PhD programmes, with the exception of students who are recipients of a PhD scholarship 

Who can apply

The scholarship is open to students from any country who wish to enrol in, or are already enrolled in, a degree programme at the University of Pisa. 

Applicants who already hold a qualification at the same level are not eligible. For example, candidates applying for a Master’s degree cannot be awarded the scholarship if they have already obtained a Master’s degree. 

Required documents

The required documents vary depending on the applicant’s category.

Non-EU students

They must submit the documentation as described in Appendix B of the call for application: 

• family composition 
• family Incomes 
• family and personal properties 

All the documents must be translated in Italian language. The original documents and the ones translated in Italian must be legalized by the Italian Diplomatic Authority in your Country of origin.

Student from non-UE particularly poor and developing countries

They have the possibility to submit different documents. They must certify that they do not come from a prominently wealthy and socially elevated family. This certification must be issued by one of the following institutions: 

• Italian Embassy or Consulate in the home country 
• Embassy or Consulate of the country of origin in Italy 

The certification must be legalised by the Italian Prefecture.

EU students

They must submit the “Substitute declaration” concerning the real estate owned and the gross income received in a European Union country by each member of the household. The form is available in Appendix D of the call for applications. 

How to apply

In order to apply for DSU scholarship, you must register on “Sportello studente” portal and fill out the online application. form. 

Important information 

• The scholarship is valid for one academic year only. Students must reapply each year by submitting an application for the relevant call.wed each year by submitting a new application under the relevant call for applications.
• After the first year, renewal of the scholarship is subject to meeting both economic and merit requirements.
• Students with family residing or incomes abroad must send the documents required by registered post with return receipt to the following address by the deadline specified in the call for application.

Results and ranking

Provisional rankings are usually published by the end of September, while final ranking is published by the end of November each year.

For PhD and postgraduate students, timelines are slightly different:

• provisional ranking: mid-December
• final ranking: mid-January

Results are published:

• on the official website: www.dsu.toscana.it
• in your personal student area

No individual notifications will be sent. Students are responsible for checking the results online.

Incompatibility

The DSU scholarship is not compatible with the Unipi merit scholarship.
