Ranking List and Enrolment in PhD Programmes

  • Ranking list of successful candidates CALL A:  Enrolment to do by 1:00 p.m. (Italian time) on 30 July 2026 

Enrolment ranking list reassignments :

IMPORTANT: The enrolment deadlines for candidates admitted following the publication of ranking list updates are specified in the Rector’s Decree approving the competition results for each individual PhD selection procedure. Please always check the deadline applicable to the PhD selection procedure you are interested in and complete the enrolment procedure by the specified deadline. 

Successful candidates who have not yet obtained the required qualification must still enrol within the deadline, conditionally upon subsequent award of the qualification. 

Candidates who fail to complete their enrolment within the deadlines and in the prescribed manner shall be regarded as having withdrawn, and therefore lose the right to enrol. 

A candidate who has already enrolled and subsequently becomes entitled to another position following a ranking list update for a different ranking list within the same PhD programme must confirm their choice their choice by contacting the PhD Unit through the Virtual Help Desk several days before the relevant enrolment deadline, in order to allow the Office sufficient time to complete the necessary administrative procedures. Failure to communicate the choice by the applicable deadline will result in the loss of the newly acquired entitlement.

 


The procedure must be carried out exclusively online via the Alice Portal (www.studenti.unipi.it). See the practical guide. 

Steps: 

  1. Log in with your credentials; 
  2. Select the PhD programme; 
  3. Fill in the required information; 
  4. Upload the following documents.

– Declaration for enrolment (form DICH/DOTT); 

– For those enrolled in another university course: Declaration of simultaneous enrolment (available on Alice). The declaration is not required from successful candidates awaiting graduation (31 October 2026). 

– For non-EU citizens: valid residence permit or receipt of application (if available) 

  • Pay the first instalment (€156.00: regional tax and stamp duty) via the PagoPA System. 

All enrolled candidates are admitted conditionally, subject to verification of the requirements set out in the Call. 

Note: Once the procedure has been completed, it is normal for the wording “in attesa di perfezionamento (pending completion) to appear on the Alice Portal; completion will be finalised automatically by the University by the time of the next reassignment. 

 

Candidates wishing to take part in reassignment procedures must confirm their interest by 3o July 2026: 

  • Log in to the Alice Portal (www.studenti.unipi.it) 
  • Select “Segreteria” => “Iscrizione concorsi” 
  • Click on the competition => access the Questionnaire => click on “Azioni” 
  • Select “SI” and confirm. 

Warning: Eligible candidates who fail to confirm their interest in the reassignment procedures by 30 July 2026 shall be deemed to have withdrawn and will therefore be excluded from subsequent reassignments. 

 

Successful candidates holding a grant must: 

  • Register with the Gestione Separata INPS (Separate Management Scheme) – After 1st November 2026: 
  1. Log in to the INPS portal with SPID credentials or an INPS PIN. Important: if you do not already have SPID credentials or an INPS PIN, you must apply well in advance, as issuing times may be lengthy. 
  2. Fill in the registration form for the Separate Management Scheme and select “collaboratore o altra attività”. 
  3. Complete the required fields and print the registration receipt. 
  4. Upload the receipt to the Alice Portal by 30 November 2026 (“Carriera” → “Allegati carriera”). 

Successful international candidates holding a grant must apply for a tax code at the Pisa office of the Agenzia delle Entrate, following the instructions below. 

How to request the tax code 

Important -September and October 

In the autumn months, the number of requests is very high, and available appointments may fill up quickly.  To ease student access, the Agency has established that, in September and Octobertwo international students may obtain a tax code in the same appointment. 

  • The student who booked the appointment may attend together with another student. 
  • Both students will receive their tax codes during the same appointment. 
  • This arrangement also applies to appointments that have already been booked. 

Required documentation 

To speed up the procedure, students must bring the following: 

  • the AA4_8 form, already filled in (available here) in the their preferred language;. 
  • a valid identification document. 
  • a certificate of enrollment issued by the University of Pisa. 

The Agency informs that the service is immediately provided. 

Request through the PhD Office 

According to the agreement with the Agenzia delle Entrate, the students may request the tax code through the PhD Office. In this case, the applicant must submit a specific request by opening a ticket via the Virtual Help Desk and attaching: 

  • the AA4_8 form already filled in (available here) in their preferred language; 
  • a valid identity document. 

Non-EU successful candidates must: 

  • Register on the Universitaly portal and apply for a study visa from the Italian Embassy or Consulate with jurisdiction over their place of residence; 
  • Present their residence permit to the “Unità concorsi e carriere dottorandi” (PhD Admissions and Careers Officeupon enrolment. In duly justified cases, the permit may be submitted by 31 December 2026. In such cases, enrolment will be conditional upon its submission. After 31 December 2026, and no later than 30 April 2027, PhD candidates may begin their programme from the day following the issue of the visa. The duration of the programme will be three years from that date.  

Successful candidates holding a qualification obtained abroad must submit the original qualification by 30 November 2026, or upon arrival in Italy. 


Public sector employees 

If a successful candidate has indicated in the online application that they are a public sector employee, they will be admitted ex officio to the PhD programme without a grant. 

Important: For such candidates, the PhD Academic Board must assess the compatibility between the paid employment and attendance of the programme (Article 14 of the PhD Regulations). Enrolment cannot be completed in the absence of such compatibility. The assessment concerns paid work, not unpaid leave.
