In its almost seven hundred years of existence, the University of Pisa has collected a vast and varied historical, scientific and artistic heritage in its 10 museums for teaching or study purposes.
The city of Pisa is home to nine museums, which collectively constitute the Sistema Museale di Ateneo. The Natural History Museum is located in Calci and is an autonomous University Centre.
The Natural History Museum of the University of Pisa is one of the oldest museums in the world. The museum was established at the end of the sixteenth century as an annex to the Giardino dei Semplici in Pisa (now known as the Botanical Garden), and is currently located in the Certosa di Pisa in Calci.
