Recognition of university credits

Students enrolled at the University of Pisa may request:

• the recognition of credits obtained in previous academic careers that ended due to withdrawal or loss of student status (“decadenza”)
• the recognition of one or more academic qualifications (career shortening)

To request credit recognition, send from your institutional e-mail account (nomeutente@studenti.unipi.it) to the student office contact person for your degree course:

• the credit recognition request form (downloadable in.pdf or .rtf format)

or

• the request for recognition of one or more academic qualifications (downloadable in .rtf or .pdf format), together with a self-certification of your degree, including a list of the exams taken and, if possible, their corresponding scientific-disciplinary sectors (SSDs) (download the self-certification form in .pdf or .rtf format)
• a copy of your identity document

The request will be assessed by the Board of the Degree Course:

• if approved without reservations, the Student Office will record the recognised educational activities without further communication, and they will be visible in your personal page on the Alice portal
• if the decision differs from your request, you will be notified and must explicitly accept the resolution. You may request an amendment within 30 days
   

Before submitting a credit recognition request, make sure that your tuition fees are paid and that you are regularly enrolled for the academic year 2026/2027.

If you request the recognition of credits from a career that ended due to withdrawal or loss of student status, you must accept or refuse the recognised credits listed in the resolution within 30 days of notification.

If you obtain credit recognition for previous academic qualifications, no additional payment is required.

If you obtain credit recognition for exams taken in previous academic careers that ended due to withdrawal or loss of student status, you must pay:

• EUR 500 for careers at other Italian or foreign universities
• for careers at the University of Pisa:
  • EUR 100 for each academic year prior to the year of enrolment, up to a maximum of EUR 1,100, if at least two academic years have elapsed between withdrawal/loss of student status and the new enrolment
  • EUR 540 if only one academic year has elapsed between withdrawal/loss of student status and the new enrolment, or if withdrawal/loss of student status was recorded for academic year 2025/2026 by 31 October 2025
  • no payment if the new enrolment occurs in the same academic year as withdrawal/loss of student status, or if withdrawal/loss of student status was recorded for academic year 2025/2026 after 31 October 2025

Recognised educational activities will be added to your academic record after the relevant payments have been made.
