Tuition fees for Degree Courses

The reduction of the annual tuition fee based on your ISEE is applied automatically; you do not need to submit a specific application to the University.

To be eligible for the annual tuition fee reduction, you must be enrolled in the current academic year and obtain an ISEE for university purposes through a CAF (Tax Assistance Centre) or directly via the INPS online portal by 2 November 2026.

If your ISEE is requested:

• between 3 November 2026 and 31 December 2026, a late fee of € 75.00 will be charged;
• between 1 January 2027 and 30 June 2027, a late fee of € 100.00 will be charged.

Once your enrolment has been completed, the University will retrieve your valid ISEE directly from the INPS database, no later than 30 June 2027.

Please note that the 2027 ISEE will be retrieved only for students who did not request a 2026 ISEE by 31 December 2026 and/or did not renew their enrolment by that date.

You are required to submit a declaration only if you wish to receive the additional tuition fee reduction available when other members of your household are also enrolled at the University of Pisa. This declaration must be completed in the relevant section of the Student Portal www.unipi.it/studenti/
.

If you do not wish to receive an ISEE-based tuition fee reduction, despite having submitted the Single Substitute Declaration (DSU), you must inform the University by sending an email to serviziotasse@unipi.it by 30 June 2027.

You can obtain an ISEE for university purposes by submitting a Single Substitute Declaration (DSU):

• at a CAF (Tax Assistance Centre). It is advisable to book your appointment well in advance of the deadline, as the ISEE certificate is issued several days after the DSU is submitted;
• through another authorised provider (for example, an authorised accountant’s office);
• directly on the INPS website, by logging in with SPID and completing the pre-filled DSU online.

If your financial situation has changed significantly, you may request that your standard University ISEE be replaced with a Current University ISEE (ISEE Corrente) (see the guidance provided by INPS) by writing to serviziotasse@unipi.it. 

You are entitled to a full exemption from the annual comprehensive tuition fee if you are:

• a recipient of a DSU Toscana scholarship;
• a student with a disability recognised under Article 3(1) of Italian Law No. 104 of 5 February 1992, or with a certified disability of 66% or more. Once this status has been declared, the exemption will automatically apply to subsequent academic years upon renewal of enrolment;
• an international student holding an Italian Government scholarship. In this case, you are required to pay only the regional tuition tax;
• a detained student. You are required to pay only the regional tuition tax;
• a care leaver (i.e. a student living independently from their family of origin under a court order). You are required to pay only the regional tuition tax.

You are entitled to a partial exemption if:

• you are an employee of the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore, the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, or DSU Toscana. You are required to pay only the first instalment and are exempt from the surcharges applied for irregular academic status or academic inactivity.
  Alternatively, you may apply for an ISEE-based tuition fee reduction under the same procedures and deadlines applicable to all regularly enrolled students. In this case, however, you are not eligible for merit-based reductions.
• you have a certified disability between 45% and 65%. You are required to pay 50% of the annual comprehensive tuition fee applicable to regularly enrolled students.
  To obtain this reduction, you must submit documentation certifying your disability. The certificate must be valid at the time of enrolment and will remain valid for subsequent academic years. If it expires while you are still enrolled, the reduction will continue to apply until the day before enrolment opens for the following academic year, regardless of the certificate’s expiry date.
  The benefit also applies retrospectively for the 2026/2027 academic year if your disability assessment was issued following an application submitted to the competent authority on or after 1 January 2026.
• you have a certified Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), certified by the Italian National Health Service or an accredited institution. You are entitled to a 20% reduction in the annual comprehensive tuition fee payable by regularly enrolled students, calculated according to your ISEE.
  To receive this reduction, you must submit a valid certificate at the time of enrolment. The benefit also applies retrospectively for the 2026/2027 academic year if your SLD assessment was issued following an application submitted to the competent authority on or after 1 January 2026.

You cannot benefit from more than one partial exemption at the same time. If you qualify for multiple exemptions, you must request the one that is most advantageous.

If your circumstances change in a way that results in the loss of your full or partial exemption, you must notify the University immediately by email at serviziotasse@unipi.it.

Students aged 50 or over.

If you have already turned 50, or will do so by 31 December 2026, you are required to pay the annual comprehensive tuition fee applicable to regularly enrolled students without any surcharge for academic inactivity or irregular enrolment.

The amount may be reduced according to your ISEE:

• ISEE from €0 to € 26,000: you do not pay the annual comprehensive tuition fee;
• ISEE above € 26,001: you pay the tuition fee applicable to regularly enrolled students (see the tuition fee reduction table).

You do not need to submit an application. The reduction is granted automatically, regardless of your financial circumstances, if:

• you enrol in a Bachelor’s degree or single-cycle Master’s degree programme and obtained a secondary school leaving qualification with a final grade of 95/100 (or 57/60) or higher. The maximum reduction is € 150;
• you enrol in the first year of a two-year Master’s degree programme (non-single-cycle) and obtained a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university diploma) with a final grade of 108/110 or higher. The maximum reduction is € 150.

The merit-based tuition fee reduction does not apply if the qualification granting access to the programme was obtained outside Italy.

The maximum annual tuition contribution is € 2,900 for:

• foreign nationals who are not resident in Italy;
• foreign nationals who are resident or legally staying in Italy, but are not financially independent, whose family of origin resides in a country other than Italy, and whose income and/or assets are held abroad;
• Italian nationals residing abroad who are not registered with AIRE (Registry of Italians Resident Abroad).

Payment is divided into five instalments:

Flat-rate contribution

For the 2026/2027 academic year, students with income and/or assets abroad are automatically assigned a flat-rate tuition contribution.

The annual comprehensive tuition fee of € 2,900 is multiplied by a fixed coefficient based on the student’s country of origin, in addition to the € 140 regional tax. Students enrolling for the first time must also pay the € 16 stamp duty.

Alternatively, you may request that your annual tuition fee reduction be calculated on the basis of your ISEEU Parificato (Equivalent University ISEE).

The ISEEU Parificato can be obtained through CAF (Tax Assistance Centres) located throughout Italy.

To apply for the tuition fee reduction, you must submit your application through the Alice Student Portal and then send your ISEEU Parificato certificate by email to iseeuparificato@unipi.it. A confirmation email will be sent a few minutes after your application has been processed.

The application for the tuition fee reduction must be submitted by 2 November 2026.

Applications submitted between 3 November 2026 and 31 December 2026 will be accepted, but a late fee of € 75.00 will be charged.

Applications submitted between 1 January 2027 and 30 June 2027 will be subject to a late fee of € 100.00.

The following late-payment charges continue to apply:

• € 150.00 for late renewal of enrolment;
• 5% on each instalment after the first, in accordance with the Student Tuition Fee Regulations.

For all students who are not Italian citizens, as well as Italian citizens residing abroad who are not registered with AIRE:

• additional charges for irregular academic status or academic inactivity do not apply.
  Likewise, reductions for off-site students and for students with other members of the same household enrolled at the University of Pisa are not available;
• if the qualification granting admission to the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme was obtained outside Italy, the merit-based tuition fee reduction does not apply.

International students requiring a study visa may enrol for the 2026/2027 academic year and submit their application for a tuition fee reduction by 31 December 2026 without incurring any late-payment fee.

If you enroll for the first time or renew your enrollment in a Bachelor’s Degree or Single-Cycle Master’s Degree programme after the deadline of 30 September 2026*, you are required to pay a late enrollment fee as follows:

• € 50.00 from 1 October 2026 to 2 November 2026;
• € 100.00 from 3 November 2026 to 30 November 2026;
• € 150.00 from 1 December 2026 onward (until 31 December 2026 for first-time enrollees only).

For installment payments after the first, a late payment penalty equal to 5% of the installment amount will be charged if payment is made after the due date.

Students who are not in good standing with their enrollment or with the payment of tuition fees, contributions, or late payment penalties are not permitted to sit examinations. Any examinations taken under these circumstances will be automatically cancelled, unless the student’s financial position is regularized within 45 days from the date on which the examination was taken.

* An exception applies to students enrolling in the first year of a Master’s Degree programme (not a Single-Cycle Master’s Degree). For these students, the enrollment deadline without a late fee is 31 December 2026.

If you graduate by 1 March 2027 (graduation academic year 2025/2026), you are not required to enroll for the 2026/2027 academic year.

If you have already paid the first installment of the annual tuition fee, it will be automatically refunded after you have obtained your degree.

If you are not certain that you will graduate by 1 March 2027, and you wish to retain the possibility of renewing your enrollment late and applying for a tuition fee reduction for the 2026/2027 academic year without incurring late payment penalties, you must:

• not pay the first installment for renewal of enrollment for the 2026/2027 academic year;
• between 1 October 2026 and 1 March 2027, declare your intention to graduate by 1 March 2027 through the Alice Student Portal. Log in, go to the “Career“ section, and select “Late Enrollment for Graduating Students“ Print and keep the receipt generated at the end of the procedure;
• if you do not graduate by 1 March 2027, you may regularize your status by paying, by 31 March 2027, the enrollment installment together with the second and third installments, which may be reduced on the basis of your valid ISEE, without any late payment penalty.

You may submit the “Late enrollment for graduating Students” application even if you have not yet submitted your degree application.

Approval of the “Awaiting graduation” application is subject to the following requirements:

• you have not renewed your enrollment for the 2026/2027 academic year;
• you have not already received approval for the same type of application relating to the same academic career in a previous academic year;
• you have earned at least 75% of the required ECTS credits for Bachelor’s Degree and Single-Cycle Master’s Degree programmes;
• you have earned at least 50% of the required ECTS credits for Master’s Degree programmes.

If you renew your enrollment after 31 March 2027, you will be required to pay the full tuition and fees, together with the applicable late payment penalties for overdue payments, without the possibility of applying for a tuition fee reduction.

Until enrollment for the 2026/2027 academic year opens (July 2026), you may request to regularize your enrollment by submitting an application to the Head of the Education Directorate via email at serviziotasse@unipi.it. If your request is approved, you may regularize your enrollment and/or obtain a reduction in your tuition fees by paying an additional late payment penalty of € 150.00. The following penalties will still apply:

• € 150.00 for late renewal of enrollment;
• € 100.00 for submission of the ISEE after the prescribed deadline;
• 5% of each installment after the first, in accordance with the Student Contribution Regulations.

If you graduate during a graduation session that begins after 2 March 2027, you must pay all installments for the 2026/2027 academic year that were already due before the start of the graduation session.

Students who do not submit the “Late enrollment for graduating Students” application must comply with all deadlines and requirements set out in the Student Contribution Regulations for the 2026/2027 academic year.

You must enroll for the 2026/2027 academic year if:

• you obtain your Bachelor’s Degree by 1 March 2027 (graduation academic year 2025/2026) and intend to enroll in a Master’s Degree programme during the 2026/2027 academic year;
• you obtain your degree by 31 December 2026 while enrolled in the first year of a shortened study programme (abbreviazione di carriera) or in the first year of a Master’s Degree programme (not a Single-Cycle Master’s Degree).
