The EU’s Framework Programme for Research and Innovation –Horizon Europe(2021–2027), preceded byHorizon 2020(2014–2020), represents the primary source of research funding for the University of Pisa. Our researchers actively participate in all categories of Horizon instruments, both as project partners and as coordinators.

National research projects

UNIPI is engaged in research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, in collaboration with other universities, research institutes, and industry partners. Our researchers are involved in numerous projects funded by the Italian Science Fund (FIS) and the Italian Fund for Applied Sciences (FISA), in hundreds of Projects of National Interest (PRIN), and in major initiatives under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)

Regional research projects

UNIPI contributes to enhancing the technological capacity of regional enterprises through collaborative research projects funded by the Region of Tuscany, using resources from the European Regional Development Fund (FESR) to support smart, sustainable, and inclusive growth.

Bilateral Research Projects with Industry

Research and innovation go hand in hand in the hundreds of bilateral projects currently underway with international, national, and local companies. Through these initiatives, the University aims to serve as a driver of economic and societal development.
