It is possible to reactivate your university career in two different ways, depending on whether your enrollment has not been renewed for at least two academic years (see the “Rejoining” section) or for only one academic year (see the “Inactive Students Who Have Not Carried Out Any Academic Activities for the 2024/2025 Academic Year” section).
Rejoining
Students who have not renewed their enrolment for at least two academic years may request to resume their academic career.
You may apply from 24 July to 31 December 2025:
To complete resuming, you must pay:
- any unpaid fees relating to academic years for which you renewed enrolment, and for academic years in which you did not renew enrolment but took exams
- the full contribution for academic year 2024/2025 if you intend to graduate by 2 March 2026, sit exams or carry out other academic actions before 31 October 2025
- the first instalment for academic year 2025/2026 of EUR 390 (EUR 250 enrolment fee + EUR 140 regional tax) if the application is submitted by 30 September 2025. From 1 October a late payment charge applies: EUR 50 until 31 October, EUR 100 until 30 November, EUR 150 from 1 December 2025
- the resuming contribution of EUR 100 for each academic year prior to the year you are resuming, up to a maximum of EUR 1,100
Applications for reunification that have not been completed by March 2, 2026, with the payment of the required fees, will be closed.

Access to pre-reform degree courses
It is no longer possible to access—via transfer, change of degree course, course shortening or resuming—the following:
- pre-reform (old system) degree courses (activated before Ministerial Decree 509/99)
- degree courses established under MD 509/99 for deactivated years of study
- degree courses established under MD 270/04 for deactivated years of study
You may always request to resume a degree course for which you have passed all required exams and only the final thesis remains.
Case of the Master’s degree in Medicine and Surgery
- Resuming the pre-reform (pre–MD 509/99) Medicine and Surgery degree course is permitted if you have passed at least 70% of the exams required by that course.
- Resuming the post-reform Medicine and Surgery degree course (MD 509/99 or MD 270/2004) is permitted if places are available in the academic year concerned due to withdrawals, transfers and course changes relative to the quota set by the Ministry. Admission is subject to evaluation of the curriculum by the Board of the Degree Course.

Inactive students with no academic actions only for academic year 2024/2025
If you did not renew enrolment only for academic year 2024/2025, you cannot request resuming (pursuant to Art. 8 of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 9 April 2001).
However, if you did not sit exams or carry out other academic actions after 1 November 2024 and do not intend to graduate by 2 March 2026, you may request the flat-rate contribution for enrolment in academic year 2024/2025.
To request it, send the form (downloadable in .rtf or .pdf format) to the student office contact person from your institutional e-mail (nomeutente@studenti.unipi.it) by 31 December 2025.
You must pay EUR 490, consisting of: EUR 200 enrolment fee, EUR 140 regional tax and EUR 150 late payment charge.
If you benefit from the flat-rate contribution, you undertake not to sit exams or carry out other academic actions by 31 October 2025, and not to graduate by 2 March 2026.
If, instead, you carry out academic actions during that period or intend to graduate by 28 February 2025, you must pay the full contribution for academic year 2024/2025.
