Project Description
The PhD in Biology promotes the training of young graduates selected on merit, offering an internationally oriented research pathway designed to develop high-level expertise in the biological field and support career development. The programme encourages interaction among research centres, universities, industry and the public sector.
In addition to research, PhD candidates will attend the following specialised courses:
- Advanced Biostatistics: theoretical lectures and practical sessions on modelling and data analysis.
- Research Professional Skills (in English): scientific writing, research ethics, copyright, open access, scientometrics, as well as project planning and presentation skills.
The programme is further enriched by the monthly seminar series Advances in Biology, held in English by international experts, and by interdisciplinary courses offered by the University of Pisa to develop linguistic, statistical and IT skills. Opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchange are also offered through initiatives such as the Contamination Lab and Career Labs for Doc.
Course Objectives
- Advanced qualification: high-level training through specialist courses and supervised research.
- Internationalisation: seminars with foreign experts, collaboration with international research groups, and study periods abroad.
- Promotion of excellence: awards for the best theses, competitive calls for meetings and workshops, and initiatives such as the Bioblitz biodiversity competition.
- Connection with the job market: meetings with experts from research and industry to support career opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
