History of Visual and Performing Arts

Active since 2012 as a regional PhD programme, the course in History of Visual and Performing Arts is jointly offered by the Universities of Florence, Pisa and Siena, with the support of Regione Toscana. The programme stands out for its high scientific relevance and its well-established network of collaborations with advanced training and research institutions at both national and international levels.

The training pathway deepens expertise in the accessibility, conservation and promotion of artistic and performative heritage, with particular attention to the Digital Humanities. Research activities focus on the visual arts (from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period), museology, art criticism, photography, theatre, cinema, audiovisual media and musicology.
