Hello!
I am a geologist primarily focused on paleoclimate reconstructions through carbonate deposits. My main scientific interest is understanding how the climate of the Mediterranean area (and beyond) responds to global climate variations. I also study the role of climate in human evolution, both in prehistoric and historical contexts.
Currently (2024), I am involved in the ERC-Synergy LAST NEANDERTHALS project, which aims to develop a comprehensive theory regarding the disappearance of Neanderthals. I also lead a research unit in the PRIN-PNRR PROMETHEUS project, which aims to reconstruct the frequency of natural wildfires in the recent geological past and the role of climate in this context.
Here are my articles: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Andrea-Columbu-2
At the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Pisa, I teach Isotopic Paleoclimatology and I am co-lecturer for General Paleoclimatology and Laboratory of Paleoclimatology. At the UniPi branch in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) I teach Introductory Geology - Exogenous Processes and Geochemistry.
