Visiting Fellow Program

Who is a Visiting Fellow? A Visiting Fellow is a qualified researcher who carries out study, research and collaboration activities at a department of the University of Pisa. Holders of research grants or fellowships from the University of Pisa are not included in this category.

Duration of the activity

The period of stay can last from 1 to 12 months.

How to become a Visiting Fellow?

You can apply on your own or be invited by a lecturer. In both cases, the procedure requires the approval of the Department Council.

Application Procedure

Admission

The CAI of the host department evaluates the applications and submits the request to the Department Council for approval.

Communication

Upon arrival, the Head of the Department must communicate the details of the Visiting Fellow to the Unità Cooperazione Internazionale using Annex C.

Advantages

The Visiting Fellow has access to the department’s research facilities and has a dedicated workstation, health insurance coverage and temporary credentials for accessing the University network. He may receive a compensation of up to EUR 3,000 gross per month and, if applicable, reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses.

Italian Language Course

The Visiting Fellow can participate in Italian language courses at the University Language Centre at subsidised fees.

Activities and Teaching

During the period of stay, the Visiting Fellow can carry out study, research and collaboration activities approved by the Department and, if qualified, he can also perform teaching activities.

Visa and Residence Permit

Non-EU citizens must apply for a visa to enter Italy, with some exceptions for short stays. For stays exceeding 90 days, it is necessary to start the procedure for a research clearance and obtain a residence permit within 8 days of arrival.
