Admission requirements and enrolment procedures
Asylum-seeking students aged 20 or over who possess the qualifications required for enrollment in bachelor’s or single-cycle master’s degree programs may enroll in Single Courses offered at the University of Pisa.
Enrollment in Single Courses is possible by following a specific procedure, which allows to attend university courses within the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs without formally enrolling in a degree program, while still obtaining recognition of academic credits, if applicable.
Fees and benefits
Asylum seekers:
- are exempt from paying the fee established by the University Tuition Fees Regulations, but they must pay a virtual stamp duty of € 16;
- can exceed the maximum annual limit of 25 CFUs established by the University Teaching Regulations
- can take the exams even 12 months after submitting the application.
General Information
- There are no deadlines for enrolling in Single Courses;
- Educational activities must be selected from those offered in the same academic year as enrollment (see the course catalogue);
- It is the student’s responsibility to verify the educational organization of the chosen courses, if necessary, with the support of the International Relations Office;
- If the chosen course is part of a limited-access program, the justified request will be evaluated by the competent academic body. If the request is rejected, the stamp duty will not be refunded.
- Earned credits can be used to obtain subsequent qualifications;
- Single Courses cannot be used to make up credits required for access to teacher training programmes;
- It is not possible to enrol for fewer credits than those assigned to each educational activity;
- To enroll in Single Courses taught in Italian, a B2 level of Italian language proficiency is required.

Before starting the application, please send an email to cooperations@unipi.it to verify the required documents.
Required documents:
- Identity document (front/back in .pdf, .jpeg or .jpg format)
- Passport-sized photo (minimum 480×480 pixels, 200 dpi, max. 3 MB, in .jpeg or .jpg format). The photo must only show the face against a light background. Group photos or photos featuring other people, panoramic shots, photos taken from a distance, from behind or where the face is not fully visible (e.g. due to scarves, hats, dark glasses) are not acceptable. Do not use drawings or caricatures, or photos of other people. The photo must neither be rotated, nor too dark.
- Single Courses enrollment form, completed and signed
- Residence permit (or receipt of the application) or other documents proving the regularisation of the stay in Italy.
Please note:
- Invalid documents or images will prevent completion of enrolment;
- To complete your enrolment and obtain exemption from the fee payment, following validation of your documents by the relevant offices, an email must be sent to both corsisingoli@unipi.it and cooperations@unipi.it;
- A confirmation email will be sent once enrolment has been finalised.
Virtual Badge
From the 2025/2026 academic year, when you enrol at the University of Pisa, you will find your virtual badge in the “Agenda Didattica” portal. This badge, featuring your photo and a QR code, will identify you as a student of the University of Pisa. Regarding access to catering services, from the 2025/2026 academic year DSU Toscana will introduce an app to replace the physical card. From the day after enrolment, you will be able to access DSU Toscana dining facilities simply by showing an identity document and giving your student number at the till. The new MyDsu app will soon be available, allowing you to access services by scanning the QR code. You will receive a notification from DSU Toscana when the app is activated.
