Massimo Torquati is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Pisa. He holds the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor in Computer Science (2023). His research focuses on high-performance computing, parallel programming models, data-stream analytics, and system-level support for exascale architectures. He has more than 25 years of experience in HPC, spanning both industry and academia. Before joining the University of Pisa in 2010, he worked in the HPC industry, contributing to large-scale international projects on high-performance interconnects and parallel systems. He has been actively involved in several European research initiatives, including FP7, H2020, and EuroHPC projects. He served as the scientific coordinator of the Italian CINI unit for the EuroHPC ADMIRE and EUPEX projects and is currently involved in the EuroHPC DARE project on RISC-V technologies. His work contributes to the European HPC ecosystem through research coordination, software stack development, and hardware-software co-design approaches for exascale systems.
He is a member of the Steering Committee of the Euro-Par conference and serves as Euro-Par Artifacts Chair. He was a member of the EOSC Task Force on Infrastructures and Quality Research Software. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Future Generation Computer Systems and The Journal of Supercomputing.
He co-authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications and is the maintainer of the FastFlow parallel and distributed programming framework.
