Martina Smorti is psychologist, psychotherapist and associate professor in Developmental and Educational Psychology (contest sector 11/E2) at the Department of Surgical, Medical and Molecular Pathology, and Critical Care of the University of Pisa.

After her Psychology degree at University of Bologna (2003), she completed her post-degree specialization course in Clinical Psychology at University of Siena (2009).

Her academic experience was developed as researcher at determined time in Developmental Psychology at Free University of Bozen (2010-2016).
Since 2016 to 2019 she worked as researcher at determined time at the Department of Surgical, Medical and Molecular Pathology, and Critical Care of University of Pisa. During this time she performed research and teaching activities at Univesity of Pisa beyond of clinical activities at Pisa University Hospital. In this time (2016-2019) she was responsible for a psychological clinic to support parents in transition to parenthood at Pisa University Hospital.
SInce 2019 she has been associate professor in Developmental and Educational Psychology at the Department of Surgical, Medical and Molecular Pathology, and Critical Care University of Pisa.

Her research activities concern on individual and relational factors related to psychological wellbeing in typical developmental transitions (i.e. transition to adulthood and parenthood) and in atypical conditions (i.e. marked by pathologic condition).
Concerning the transition to parenthood the research aimed to deep how some clinical and pathologic conditions (oncological diagnosis, maternal or fetal pathology) affect maternal and fetal wellbeing also connectiong with relevant research centers (National Health Institute; King's College of London, Liverpool University). In 2021 she was awarded the title of ITALIAN PALADINS OF THE HEALTH, a recognition given to researchers as thanks for their commitment to protecting public health. The selection of researchers to be awarded the title of Italian Paladins of Health was carried out by the Scientific Committee chaired by Prof. Walter Ricciardi, member of the Executive Committee of the World Health Organization

As regards the transition to adulthood, her studies have focused on the conditions in which this transition is marked by cardiac pathology. The studies were carried out in collaboration with the Cardiomyopathies Unit of the Careggi University Hospital of Florence, the Italian Cardiomyopathies Association (AICARM). Furthermore, since 2024 he has been P.I. for the University of Pisa of the VITAL -VIRTUAL TWINS AS TOOLS FOR PERSONALIZED CLINICAL CARE research project admitted funded in response to the HORIZON-HLTH-2023-TOOL-05-03 call.

Publications
She is author of more than 60 articles on peer review international journals and three edited books.
