PhD Transfers ~ UNIPI

Transfer to the University of Pisa – Incoming

Students already enrolled in a PhD programme at another Italian or foreign university may apply to transfer to a PhD programme at the University of Pisa.

Incoming transfers do not guarantee a scholarship funded by the University of Pisa
Applicants must submit a request for a nulla osta to the PhD Admissions and Careers Unit through the Virtual Student Desk
The request must include a detailed self‑certification of academic activities completed at the previous institution

Conditions for approval

The University of Pisa may issue the nulla osta if:

there are available places in the PhD programme
the PhD Programme Board recognises the academic activities already completed and confirms that the candidate can successfully complete the PhD programme at Unipi

Next steps after approval

If the nulla osta is issued:

The candidate must obtain a clearance document from the current university
Once the clearance document is obtained, the candidate can complete enrolment at the University of Pisa according to the instructions and deadline communicated by the PhD office
Upon enrolment, the candidate must pay the Regional tax of €140

Transfer from the University of Pisa – Outgoing

PhD candidates who wish to transfer from the University of Pisa to another university must:

submit their transfer request to the PhD Admissions and Careers Unit of the University of Pisa through the Virtual Student Desk
declare that they have obtained the nulla osta from the destination university
return any University access card (if applicable)

Outgoing transfers for scholarship holders are subject to the rules and procedures of the destination university and do not guarantee continuation of the scholarship previously awarded at the University of Pisa.
