The University of Pisa has published a call for Exploratory Research Projects to foster new ideas and support projects with a strong social impact that require innovative and interdisciplinary approaches.
By Rector’s Decree 205/2026 dated February 19, 2026, the Call for Exploratory Research Projects – 2026 was issued.
Two types of proposals are accepted: departmental exploratory projects, where the budget is requested and allocated to a single department; and interdepartmental exploratory projects, where the budget is requested and allocated to multiple departments.
The total funding for the call is 1,800,000 euros, and it is distributed among the University’s departments in proportion to the number of faculty members in each. The budget available for a single departmental project ranges from 15,000 to 30,000 euros (the same range applies to a single department’s allocation in interdepartmental projects).
Projects have a maximum duration of 24 months.
