Accommodation for students and international guests

The University of Pisa does not have a university campus, but students usually manage to find accommodation without too many difficulties.

Usually, foreign students share apartments with other students, both Italian and international.

The average cost to rent a room ranges from EUR 250 to EUR 350 per month, to which additional charges for utilities and any condominium fees must be added.

How to Search for Accommodation

It is recommended to start the research well in advance, ideally in the summer months (July-August), when many students leave the city.
For your research you can consult:

Seeking Accommodation – The DSU service

The DSU – Azienda Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario – among the various services provided to university students, also offers support and assistance to students seeking accommodation in Pisa. Furthermore, it allocates accommodation places in its lodging facilities to out-of-town students who meet specific economic requirements through a contest

Cerco Alloggio is a portal specialised in rentals to out-of-town students, which allows you to find apartments and single or shared rooms.

What you need to know when signing a lease agreement for private accommodation

Read carefully the rental contract for private accommodation (single or double room).

When visiting the apartment, make sure that the price requested matches what is indicated in the advertisement and that it is clearly specified which expenses and services are included in the agreed rental amount. For example: are bills included? Are there any additional costs? Is there a washing machine? Do condominium fees have to be paid separately?

Remember that landlords ask for a deposit, which generally corresponds to two or three months’ rent

Finally, take note of all the details and, when signing the contract, make sure that the price and terms of the rent have not changed.
