Prof. Burrello's research focuses on the theory of quantum many-body systems, with a particular attention to quantum simulations of exotic phenomena, the engineering of topological phases of matter and their application to quantum information, computation and other quantum technologies. His work include the design of superconducting devices and ultracold atom setups with the aim of realizing exotic states of artificial matter, including, for instance, gauge theories, systems with topological order and anyons.
