a) Educational qualifications:
- Degree in Nuclear Engineering (Materials) at the University of Pisa on October 15, 1986, discussing the thesis "Study of the phenomenon of disbonding in a weld overlay in AISI 309L-Nb on a reclaimed steel 2.25Cr-1Mo in operation of thermal treatments ", under the guidance of the speakers prof. Lùcia Paganini, prof. Adriano Solina and prof. Salvatore Lanza.
b) Research Doctorate:
- PhD in Metallurgical Engineering discussing on 28 September 1992, at the headquarters of the Ministry of University and Scientific and Technological Research, in the presence of the National Judge Commission composed by prof. Enzo Butta (Chairman), from prof. Agatino Di Paola and prof. Giuseppe Randi, the thesis entitled "Phenomena of hydrogen embrittlement in steel 2.25Cr-1Mo used for pressure vessels"
c) Current job position:
- Ordinary university professor for the SSD ING-IND.21.

As a member of the Research Unit of the University of Pisa, he participated in 8 research projects at national and international level:
Coordination of national and international research projects.
He coordinated and coordinated, as scientific director of the Research Unit of the University of Pisa, the following international research projects funded by the European Commission:
- European ECSC project called "SCHIELD" on the quality control methodologies of steels for inorganic surface coatings, 1995-96;
- European project ECSC called "High velocity forming of steel and tubes for applications in the automotive industry" Contract RFSR-CT-2006-00026 started in July 2006
- European project ECSC called "Optimization of finishing processes for eliminating reconstruction of plate and section product" Contract RFSR-CT-2007-00014 started in July 2007

Main research interests
The research activity carried out by Prof. Renzo Valentini has mainly concerned :
a) Interaction of hydrogen with metallic materials.
b) Development and study of new types of metal alloys both for mechanical constructions and for special performances.
c) Metallurgical welding problems in steels.
d) Innovation of steel production processes.
e) Degradation, fracture and corrosion in steel
The scientific activity of prof. Valentini has led to more than 180 scientific articles, four books and two patents.
