I am an Associate Professor in Archaeology at the University of Pisa (Department of Civilisation and Forms of Knowledge), where I teach Archaeological Methods and Theory and Digital Archaeology. I work at the MAPPA Lab, which manages the MOD (Mappa Open Data), the Italian repository for Open Archaeological Data. My fields of interest regarding Digital Archaeology, Archaeological Method and Theory, and Medieval, Post-Medieval and Contemporary archaeology. I deal with mathematical applications and Big Data issues in archaeology, with urban and preventive archaeology, archaeological GIS, open data issues, predictive modelling. I have been the coordinator of the ArchAIDE Project (PI Letizia Gualandi), funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

FUNDED PROJECTS
2023-26: Group leader of the FAIR project (Future Artificial Intelligence Research), funded by the Next Generation EU (NGEU) programme.
2022-25: Co-PI of the project "Forsaken ecologies. Archeologia ambientale e pratiche di resistenza locale nella montagna apuo-versiliese", funded by the Next Generation EU (NGEU) programme.
2022-24: PI of the ARAM (ARchaeology of the Abandoned Mountains), funded by Regione Toscana.
2020-22: Coordinator (PI Letizia Gualandi) of MAGOH (Managing Archaeological data for a sustainable GOvernance of the Heritage) project, funded by Regione Toscana.
2017-19: WP3 Leader in the University of Pisa CERTOSA Project, which is aimed to the archaeological investigation of the Charterhouse of Calci (PI).
2016-19: Coordinator (PI Letizia Gualandi) of ArchAIDE project (www.archaide.eu). a three-year RIA project, approved by EC under call H2020-REFLECTIVE-6-2015, grant agreement no. 693548. ArchAIDE aims to create a new system for the automatic recognition of archaeological pottery.
2011-13: Regione Toscana FAS 2007-13 granting support “MAPPA Metodologie Applicate alla Predittività del Potenziale Archeologico”. MAPPA project was aimed to the predictive modeling of the archaeological potential of an urban area and to the creation of the first Italian open archaeological data repository.
