Luis E. Herranz

Ph.D. from the Polytechnique University of Madrid (UPM) in 1996.
Research Professor since 2015, he has been leading the Unit for Nuclear Safety Research for more than 25 years. As a consequence of his research in national and international projects, he has published hundreds of research articles in refereed journals in the areas of Severe Accidents, Nuclear Fuel Thermo-mechanics, Thermal-hydraulics of Passive Safety Systems and Power Cycles in Nuclear Technology.
He has been coordinator of some recent EURATOM projects in the area of nuclear safety and since 2018 he has been the leader of the Technical Area 2 (Severe Accidents) of SNETP/NUGENIA. In the frame of OECD/NEA, he was the Chair of the WGAMA (Working Group of Analysis and Management of Accidents) between 2015 and 2021. At present he is member of: the Advisory Board of WGAMA, the Working Group on Fuel Safety (WGFS), and the Expert Group of Small Modular Reactors (EGSMR).
With a strong committed to teaching and training, Luis E. Herranz directed the master on Nuclear Engineering and Applications of Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) for more than 10 years. He lectures regularly in national and international graduate and postgraduate courses on Nuclear Technology and Nuclear Safety. He has been collaborating for years in education and training seminars and workshops organized by NEA and IAEA concerning severe accidents and accident management
