Dr. Mauricio E. Cazado is a research scientist at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), in Germany. He specializes in Severe Accident analysis and Advanced Technology Fuels for water-cooled nuclear reactors. He obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Technology from the National University of San Martín (Argentina) in 2023. Dr. Cazado actively contributes to international collaborative research projects, including the EU-funded SASPAM-SA project (Safety Analysis of SMR with Passive Mitigation Strategies – Severe Accident) and CATAPULT (Comprehensive Assessment and Preparedness for Emerging Nuclear Technologies) from the PIANOFORTE partnership. He also participates in the OECD/NEA QUENCH ATF program, which assesses the behaviour of Cr-coated Zr-alloy cladding under design-basis and beyond-design-basis accident conditions. He holds extensive experience in fuel performing modelling, having participated in the development and validation of the DIONISIO code in Argentina. He has maintained a long-standing collaboration with the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) on hydride behaviour during operation and spent fuel.
