Summer School "Towards Human-Centered, Inclusive, and Equitable Artificial Intelligence" ~ UNIPI

This interdisciplinary Summer School explores how Artificial Intelligence can be designed, developed, and implemented to prioritize human values, foster inclusion, and promote equity across diverse social contexts.

It brings together a broad range of participants and speakers from the member universities of the Circle U. Alliance, creating a dynamic and collaborative learning environment.

Participants will engage in lectures, workshops, case studies, and hands-on group projects, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to design AI systems that are inclusive, equitable, and human-centered. Collaborative sessions will encourage interdisciplinary exchange, creative thinking, and critical reflection on the societal role of AI.

Programme

Dates: 15–19 September 2025
Format: On-site in Pisa, Italy

The programme includes:

35 hours of in-person lectures, workshops, and group work
15 hours of preparatory reading
Final group presentations and reports (10 hours)

The project work activities of the School are co-organised with the PNRR SoBigData project.

Application period: 26 May – 30 June 2025.

No preselection or nomination process is required.

Application has to be submitted via Alice portal following the instructions of the “How to apply” page.

ECTS

Participants will receive 3 ECTS credits upon successful completion of the programme.

Costs and Funding

Fees: No participation fees for applicants from Circle U. Universities.
Included: Daily breaks and lunches
Not included: Travel and accommodation (to be covered by participants).

Participants are encouraged to check with their home institutions for possible funding opportunities.

Admission Requirements

Background in relevant academic fields (AI, computer science, social sciences, law, etc.)
Interest or experience in topics related to ethical, inclusive, and human-centered AI
