Dr. Valeria Casson Moreno obtained a Master Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Padova (Italy).
She completed her PhD in Nuclear and Industrial Security at the University of Pisa (Italy). During her PhD, Dr. Casson Moreno joined the Fire and Process Safety Unit of the Health & Safety Laboratory in Buxton (United Kingdom), studying incidents in polymers production plants.
For two years, she has been a Post-Doctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University and Mary Kay OConnor Process Safety Center at Doha (Qatar).
From 2014 to 2021, she has been working as Assistant Professor of Chicamical Plants at the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Materials Engineering Chemical (DICAM) at the University of Bologna (Italy).
Currently, she is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering at the University of Pisa.
Prof. Casson Moreno main research interest is in Process Safety and in particular:
1. Risk analysis of hazardous materials: runaway reactions, calorimetry, Early Warning Detection Systems, vent sizing
2. Past accidents analysis Lesson Learning
3. Sustainability assessment of emerging processes and technologies related to energy transition (e.g. energy production from renewable sources and biofuels/biochemicals production).
4. Security (physical) issues in the chemical and process industry.
