Stefano Chessa is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Pisa and he is also Research Associate at the ISTI/CNR Institute (Information Science and Technology Institute). He received his MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1994 and 1999, respectively. In 1999 he was research assistant at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Trento, Italy, and in 2000 he was research assistant at the Istituto di Elaborazione dell'Informazione (IEI) of the National Research Council (CNR), Pisa, Italy. From 2000 to 2014 he was Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Pisa and from 2014 to 2019 he was Associate Professor in the same department.

Currently, he is member of the Council of the Doctorate in Computer Science (since October 2013), and he had been supervisor of 8 PhD students. From 2015 to 2020 he had been vice-chair of the BSc and MSc curricula in Computer Science, and currently he is chair of the MSc in Cybersecurity of the University of Pisa.
He has worked several EU projects (SatNex, SMEPP, InterMedia, PERSONA, universAAL, Engaged, TEACHING, HaloFarMs), and he has been the scientific leader (for the University of Pisa) of the EU FP7 projects RUBICON and DOREMI. At local level he has been the scientific leader (for the University of Pisa) of the regional project High-Tech Green-House.

He is member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments (since 2012). He also served in the editorial board of the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks (2011-2012) and of Sensors (2018-2019), and he had been co-editor of the special issue “Evaluating Ambient Assisted Living Components and Systems” for the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Smart Environments (JAISE) in 2015. In the period 2011-2013 he had been chair of the Steering Board of the EvAAL Competition (Evaluating AAL systems through competitive benchmarking), and he served as General Chair of EvAAL in 2011 and 2012. He also had been general co-chair of i-Cities in 2019. Overall, he had been member of the technical program committee of more than 150 scientific conferences.
He is co-author of around 200 publications appeared on international, peer-reviewed journals, conferences and books chapters. His research interests are in the fields of Internet of Things, wireless sensor networks, pervasive computing and in their applications to precision agriculture, ambient assisted living and e-health, crowdsensing and participatory sensing.
