TThe research activity deals with the study of herbaceous crops for food and non-food purposes (oilseed crops, crops for bio-based products, fiber crops, plants for natural dyes) and medicinal and aromatic plants. Specific studies on agro-environmental factors and cultivation techniques are carried out to evaluate their influence on crop growth, development and quanti-qualitative response of herbaceous species, including their biology and ecophysiology. Principles and techniques for the sustainable management of the production system are implemented, thus developing the most suitable itineraries to ensure the availability, quality and quantity of their products and their valorisation, according to different end-uses.
The main research topics are:
- New and alternative crops for cereal-based cropping system diversification;
- Evaluation of alternative farming systems;
- New crops as alternative sources for agro-food industry and bio-industry;
- Oilseed crops;
- Medicinal and aromatic species;
- Fiber crops;
- Crops as sources of natural dyes and natural sweeteners;
- Bio-based products.
