Dr. Paolo Pagano (male) received his M.S. degree in Physics in 1999 from Trieste University (I). In 2003 he received his Ph.D. degree in High Energy Physics from Trieste University having worked for the COMPASS collaboration at the European Laboratory of High Energy Physics - CERN (Geneva, CH). In 2004 he was affiliated at the Institute of Particle Physics - HISKP - at Bonn University (D). In 2006 he received a Master in Information Technology from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa (http://www.santannapisa.it). From 2009 he is with the National Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT). From the same year, he is leading Networks of Embedded Systems area at the CNIT National Laboratory of Photonic Networks in Pisa (http://pntlab.cnit.it/).
From October 2015 he is the Director of the CNIT laboratory on advanced sensing and networking in sea ports in Livorno (http://jlab-ports.cnit.it). His research activities have a specific focus on IoT and Mobile Networks. He is responsible of public and private research grants in the domain of Intelligent Transport Systems and Smart Plants. He is participating (on behalf of CNIT) to the ETSI standardization committees for Intelligent Transportation and Maritime Digitalization. From September 2018 he is member of the Working Group “Smart Roads”, Technical Committee on Autonomous Driving at the World Road Association. From October 2022 he is member of the Space for Maritime Task Force jointly established by the Italian Coast Guard and the European Space Agency to implement their respective mandates around “smart and uncrewed shipping”. From September 2023 to July 2025 he has served as the chairman of ETSI ISG CDM (European Common Information Sharing Environment Service and Data Model). From April 2025 he is the Vice-Chairman of ETSI TC on Data Solutions. He co-authored about 150 peer reviewed papers to international journals and conferences.
