Mario Donato Santucci
was born in Monteroni D’Arbia (Siena) in 1960.
He graduates in Mechanical Engineering (Vehicles) in Pisa (Italy) in 1986, obtains his Ph.D. in Tribology in 1990; after a short period spent as free lance, starts working in Piaggio in 1992, as Test Engineer.
Until 1996 takes care of several new projects such as Typhoon, Zip, Hexagon, Sfera (first European 4-stroke scooter), new Vespa ET4 and many others. Improves the internal organization of Testing Dept., designing and developing a network computer system for test archives and information flow (GRC, still in use).
In 1997 takes over the responsibility of the Design Center and Vehicle Innovation. In this new charge covers a relevant role in conceiving and developing projects such as Piaggio X9, Piaggio Beverly and Beverly 500, Gilera DNA, Vespa GT and GTS, Vespa LX, Gilera Nexus and introduces through Innovation the tilting three wheeler concept which will became the Piaggio Mp3 later on.
In 2004 takes over the direction of the newly created Vehicle Innovation Dept. The research activities are mainly focused on the study of new devices and new vehicle concepts to improve safety and user friendliness of PTW, but the Department takes care also of granted projects (Vehicle), EU lobbying and other.
Mario Santucci is manager within Piaggio’s organizational chart (vice president) since October 2000. Since 2005 he teaches Industrial Product Development at Pisa University.
