Scientific Profile:
Maria Giuseppina Bisogni is Full Professor of Medical Physics at the Department of Physics “E. Fermi” of the University of Pisa and an associate researcher at the Pisa Section of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN). She currently serves as Vice-Director of the Department of Physics and previously held the same position at the School of Specialization in Medical Physics of the University of Pisa.
Throughout her career, she has been actively engaged in the development of systems for medical imaging and dosimetry of ionizing radiation, employing techniques derived from nuclear physics. She has coordinated numerous research projects, including the MORSE project, funded under the PRIN programme of the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), focusing on the dosimetry of Very High Energy Electron (VHEE) FLASH beams. She also led the INSIDE project, funded under the PRIN programme by MUR (formerly MIUR), and the INSIDE2 project funded by the National Centre for Oncological Hadrontherapy (CNAO), aimed at the in vivo verification of hadrontherapy treatments and currently undergoing clinical trials at CNAO. She has served as a member of INFN National Scientific Commission 3, which coordinates research in nuclear physics and its applications. She is also a member of the Joint Scientific Council of the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) and of the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research in Darmstadt, Germany, among the leading international facilities for nuclear physics research.
She is the founder and a member of the Scientific Committee of the first Italian Centre for Multidisciplinary Research and Implementation of FLASH Radiotherapy (CPFR), established in Pisa in 2022 and promoted by the University of Pisa, the University Hospital “Santa Chiara,” INFN Pisa, and the Institute of Neuroscience of the National Research Council (CNR).
