Career
Lorella Giuliotti graduated with honors in Animal Production Sciences on April 15, 1983, from the University of Pisa.
In November 1983, she qualified as a Professional Agronomist at the same university.
In November 1987, she was admitted to the Ph.D. program in "Animal Production Sciences and Technologies for Challenging Areas," based at the Department of Anatomical, Physiological, and Animal Production Sciences of the University of Pisa.
She earned her Ph.D. in June 1991.
In June 1993, she successfully applied for a national scholarship under the "R.A.I.S.A." program.
Since April 1995, she has been employed as a researcher at the Department of Animal Production at the University of Pisa.
Teaching Activities
She has lectured in both General and Specialized Animal Science within the degree programs in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Production Sciences and Technologies, and Animal Husbandry Techniques and Canine Education.
Scientific Activities
She served as the scientific coordinator of her department’s research unit for the 2001 MURST project: “Investigation of the effects of genetic and environmental components on metabolic disorders in dairy cows.”
She was also the lead researcher for ARSIA projects, including:
• Conservation and enhancement of native livestock breeds in Tuscany, focusing on:
o Cattle: Calvana, Garfagnina, Pontremolese.
o Sheep: Garfagnina Bianca, Pomarancina, Zerasca.
o Swine: Cinta Senese. (Subproject 2 – Cinta Senese breed).
• Organic and biodynamic agriculture in Tuscany for agri-livestock activities, analyzing constraints and opportunities in technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial practices to enhance organic meat production.
She contributed to:
• The three-year ARSIA project: Il monitoraggio dell’azienda biologica della Tenuta di San Rossore.
• The three-year ARSIA project: Valorizzazione della razza suina Cinta Senese e dei suoi prodotti.
She conducted research funded by the University of Pisa and the Tuscany Region (ARSIA) on topics such as:
• Assessing animal welfare in conventional and organic beef cattle farms.
• Zootechnical and parasitological parameters of the Zerasca sheep population.
• Developing an “on-farm” system for evaluating animal welfare in dairy cattle and sheep.
She served as the scientific coordinator for the “Monitoraggio in itinere dell’impatto della misura 215 del Piano di Sviluppo Rurale (2007/2013) in Toscana” funded by the Tuscany Region.
She also participated in the “Bando Multimisura per Progetti Integrati di Filiera - Valorizzazione del latte Mugellano”.
Her scientific output includes more than 120 publications.
