Leonardo Ricotti, Ph.D., (gender: male, date of birth: 02/03/1982) obtained a M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pisa in 2007 (110/110 cum laude) and a PhD in Biorobotics at SSSA, in 2012 (100/100 cum laude). He is currently Assistant Professor of Bioengineering and Biorobotics at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and head of the Micro-nano-bio systems and targeted therapies Lab at the BioRobotics Institute. He supervises or co-supervises 9 PhD students and has been the tutor of 23 M.Sc. theses on bioengineering topics.
He carries out innovative research efforts at the interface between different disciplines, such as robotics and mechatronics, materials science, molecular biology and biotechnology. He is co-author of 67 scientific publications (44 on ISI journals) and 6 book chapter. He is also inventor of 7 patents. He has a H-index of 19 and a total of 871 citations according to the Scholar source and a H-index of 14 and a total of 609 citations according to the Scopus source.
He is Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on NanoBioscience, Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Regenerative Medicine, Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Nanomaterials, Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine and he has been Associate Editor for the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in 2015 and in 2016.
In 2012, he received the Massimo Grattarola award for the best PhD Thesis in bioengineering. In 2013, he received two Best Oral Presentation awards for Conference talks concerning bio-hybrid system development. In July 2014, he was awarded with the European Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Doctoral Award.
The projects that he devised and that he currently manages are: VESPRO (funding: 60 k, role: Project Manager), MOTU (funding: 850 k, role: WP Principal Investigator), RELIEF (funding: 600 k, role: Co-Principal Investigator), Bio-Enable (funding: 350 k, role: Technical Project Manager), Smart APP (funding: 15 k, role: Project Coordinator), M2Neural (funding: 355 k, role: Project Manager), SUAVES (funding: 90 k, role: Project Manager), GeT Small (funding: 40 k, role: Project Manager), ROBO-IMPLANT (funding: 680 k, role: Project Manager).
