Junio Aglioti Colombini, PhD in Political Science from the University of Pisa, is a postdoctoral researcher on the project “Misperceptions, Information Disorder, and Polarization between Media and Political Systems” (MiMeSys) at the Department of Political Science, University of Pisa.
Aglioti Colombini also holds the position of Research Fellow and Research Assistant Coordinator at MediaLaB | Big Data in Social & Political Research Lab. Their research interests lie at the intersection of political communication, participatory processes, and new media, with a particular focus on the memification of the digital public sphere— the specific topic of their doctoral research. They approach these topics through a queer and feminist research lens, which informs their analysis of power structures, representation, and identity in the digital era.
Currently, their work delves into the evolution and transformation of pop politics, as well as the dynamics of polarization and disinformation within media and political systems, particularly in relation to forms of light entertainment and the use of memes as cultural and ideological instruments.
In addition to their research, Aglioti Colombini serves as a teaching assistant for the courses "Sociology of Communication," "Digital Communication," and "Institutional Communication" at the University of Pisa’s Department of Political Science. They are also an Associate Editor for the scientific journal The Lab’s Quarterly.
