Graduated in Pharmacy from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Pisa. Specialist diploma from the School of Specialization in Science and Technology of Officinal Plants, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Pisa.
From 01/01/1991 to 11/30/2000 he was in service at the Department of Bioorganic Chemistry and Biopharmacy (formerly Dep. of Bioorganic Chemistry) of the University of Pisa with the qualification of Technical Collaborator (VII q.f.); Confirmed Researcher from 01/12/2000 to 28/12/2014; from 29/12/2014 to 01/11/2023 he held the role of Associate Professor.
Currently, since 02/11/2023 he is in service at the Department of Pharmacy with the title of Full Professor.
Teaching experience: various courses, such as Plant Biology, Pharmaceutical Botany, Identification of Medicinal Plant Constituents, Phytochemistry, etc.
He acts as a supervisor of compilation and experimental degree theses for the Degree Courses in Pharmacy, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies and Herbal Sciences, as well as tutor and supervisor of PhD students.
He has published over 470 articles on phytochemistry and chemistry of natural organic substances in prestigious national and international journals and presented numerous communications at national and international conferences.

He has participated in several Ministerial projects admitted to funding both as a member of the Unit and as Principal Investigator of the Research Unit.

Research interests: extraction, isolation and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites of plant origin, their biological screening for the evaluation of their activity against human and veterinary pathologies; chemistry of essential oils and volatile compounds spontaneously emitted by plants and their parts.
