Francesco Bucchi

Francesco Bucchi is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering of the University of Pisa, a position he has held since 2021. He received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2007 and his Master's degree in Vehicle Engineering in 2010, both from the University of Pisa. In 2014, he earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the same university, following a three-month research period at Prof. Elahinia’s Lab, University of Toledo, USA.

He is the author of approximately 50 articles published in peer-reviewed international journals and has presented at an equal number of international and Italian conferences. He is the inventor of six national and international patents and co-author of a chapter in the book “SMA Actuation Mechanisms”, published by John Wiley & Sons.

His research interests focus on the mechanical behavior of materials and the multibody simulation of vehicles and innovative structures, with particular emphasis on structural analysis and vibrations.

In terms of teaching, Prof. Bucchi is responsible for the Automotive Engineering Design course within the Master’s Degree Program in Automotive Engineering, and for the Machine Design course within the Master’s Degree Programs in Chemical, Energy, and Electrical Engineering.

Since September 2023, he has served as President of the Professional-Oriented Degree Program in Techniques for Mechanics and Production, where he also teaches the Design course.

He is currently the Faculty Advisor of the Formula SAE team at the University of Pisa, a student team comprising more than 100 members from over 20 Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programs.
