Francesca Romoli research activity deals with the Eastern Slavic Middle Ages. Her scholarly interests include homiletic literature in its rhetorical-pragmatic functioning, the homiletics of Kirill Turovskij and its varieties, the literary form of spiritual teachings, the geographic variability of hagiography and the processes of its standardization, the patristic legacy in ecclesial memory, the functions of biblical quotations in different literary forms, the textual tradition of Christian Topography, and the history of Italian Slavistics, particularly the activity of Ettore Lo Gatto in the Fascist era. Since 2013 she has been pursuing, in collaboration with M.C. Ferro, the project of a Church Slavonic-Italian lexicon of religious and philosophical-theological vocabulary. Since 2010 she has been working on the figure of Maximus the Greek, which is now, also thanks to a project funded by DAAD in 2013, her major field of investigation. She investigates in particular Maximus’ role as a mediator of the culture and values of Italian Humanism in 16th-century Muscovy. In this field, she has produced 1 monograph, 12 articles in class A journals, 1 article in scholarly journals, 4 essays in volumes, 1 translation in class A journal, 2 translations in volumes, edited 2 collections of essays, organized and co-organized two international conferences. Overall, in her career she has organized and co-organized 10 national and international scientific events, participated as an invited speaker in 40 conferences in Italy and abroad (France, Russia, Lithuania). She is the author of more than 80 publications: 2 monographs, 7 editorships, 1 volume translation, 31 articles in class A journals, 10 journal articles, 1 translation in class A journal, 17 volume contributions, 7 volume translations, 7 conference papers, as well as various specialized handbook entries on Slavic themes.
