CURRENT WORK POSITION
Associate Professor at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Pisa (Italy), since March 2023. I teach courses in Agri-food Policy and Agricultural Economics

I have obtained the National Scientific Habilitation for the role of Full Professor, in Agricultural Economics (AGR / 01), (valid from 12/12/2023 until 12/12/2034).

RESEARCH FIELD

I have over ten years’ experience on European projects (FP7, H2020, HE) and national research projects exploring the multidimensionality of agriculture and food and the socio-economic and political challenges that characterize contemporary agri-food systems.
Benefiting from inter-disciplinary perspectives, working in connection with relevant societal and policy actors and networks, my key research interests include: the functioning and vulnerabilities of food systems and related policies analysis, food and nutrition security, socio-economic and environmental outcomes, assessment of the sustainability performance of food value chains, the role of farms in territorial food systems, the governance of rural and urban synergies.

In 2023 I have been in the working group of experts called by SAPEA (European Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism) which delivered an evidence review report on Sustainable Food Consumption (“SAPEA, Science Advice for Policy by European Academies. I am currently serving as vice-president of the European Society for Rural Sociology for the term 2023-2025
I’m part of the Advisory Board of “Food Policy” Journal (Elsevier) since 2023
I am serving the Italian Network of Local Food Policies (PLC), (board member 2020-2021) and in the Italian Association of Agricultural and Applied Economists (AIEAA), (board member 2020-2022)
I was a member of the Committee on Sustainable Food Program for the Daniel Carasso Felloship, 2023 selection, awarded by the The Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso, active in France and Spain.
I was a Member of the Jury Regiostar Awards – DG Regio, Urban Europe Category assessment in 2021
Since 2019 I served regularly as Expert evaluator at the Research Executive Agency (REA) of the European Commission, for the evaluation of project proposals and mid-term assessment under the Horizon Europe and H2020 research funding programs in Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy, “Rural Renaissance” and "Sustainable Food Security" thematic areas.
