Profilo

Ruolo: Docente Esterno

Federica Pannacciulli studied biology at the University of Genoa where she got the degree in Biology (110/110 cum laude) in 1991 (Thesis title: “Population dynamics of Chthamalidae (Crustacea, Cirripedia) along the Ligurian coast”). In 1995, she received her Ph.D. from the Department of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology, Port Erin Marine Laboratory, University of Liverpool (Thesis title: "Population ecology and genetics of European species of intertidal barnacles"). Later she covered several post-doctoral positions, such as a Postdoc on a MAST III project (EUROROCK) at the University of Genoa (1995-1998), a Postdoc at the University of Western Sydney (1999-2000), a Fellowship as Ray Lankester Investigator at the Marine Biological Association of the UK (1999-2001). All the above appointments were made available to work on various aspects of barnacle ecology and genetics.
Since 2001 she has a permanent position as Research Scientist at the ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and the Sustainable Economic Development) - Marine Environment Research Centre. She has been principal investigator for ENEA on several RTD projects, including the EUMAR (European Marine Genetic Biodiversity) FP6 project (2002-2005) where she was responsible for molecular studies on barnacles. Since 2001 she is one of the two Italian delegates for the EPBRS (European Platform for Biodiversity Research Strategies) and since 2006, she is Professor on contract at the University of Pisa running a course on “Marine Molecular Ecology and Phylogeography”.
Expertise: marine genetic biodiversity including molecular ecology and population genetics of marine invertebrates in relation to: biogeography, species distribution, habitat fragmentation/re-connection, effects of pollution and harvesting; the ecology and genetics of barnacles, with special focus on Chthamalus spp.; rocky shore ecology with special focus on population dynamics and long-term climate changes.
