Short CV/biograpy
Andrea Natali was born in Pisa, Italy, on 20 February 1961 and is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Pisa where he graduated in 1987. During the specialty school of Nuclear Medicine and in Internal Medicine, he has worked as Intern and Research investigator at the CNR Institute of Clinical Physiology, Pisa, Italy. In 1999 he become Research Investigator at the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Pisa and in 2006 Associate professor in Internal medicine.

Principal research interests are: (1) insulin action on electrolytes, glucose and lipid metabolism in vivo in humans; (2) the pathophysiology of insulin resistance in relation to cardiovascular risk factors and endothelial dysfunction; (3) vascular effects of metabolic drugs and metabolic effects of cardiovascular drugs; (4) vascular effects of insulin and the role of blood flow in glucose metabolism; (5) epidemiology and pathophysiology of vascular complications in diabetes and hypertension. Andrea Natali has published over 124 original articles on peer reviewed journals (H index: 47), as well as 19 reviews and 10 book chapters.

Dr. Natali is an EASD member since 1994 and in the period 2005-07 chaired the (Hypertension in diabetes) HID Study Group. He is also a member of the Project Management Board of RISC, and ePREDICE, 2 EU sponsored European multicentre study, and member of the Scientific Committee of the SID (Italian society of Diabetes). He is on the Editorial Board of the journal Nutrition Metabolism and Cardiovascular diseases.
