Alfredo Mazzotti

Alfredo Mazzotti is Emeritus Professor of Geophysics at the University of Pisa where he currently leads some research projects and teaches courses at the Departments of Physics and of Earth Sciences. He also acts as the Scientific Director of the University Consortium for Geophysics, in La Spezia (Italy),an organization which promotes geophysics and its applications for energy, environment and engineering. In 2005, he contributed to launch the "Master of Science Programme in Exploration and Applied Geophysics", a successful study programme judging from the job placement of many past-students.

He graduated with honors at the University of Florence in the distant 1981 with a dissertation on seismic tomography and then started his career in Geophysics at ENI- Hydrocarbon Exploration, where he worked as research geophysicist, senior research assistant and head of the Geophysical Research Department.

His current research activities include stochastic full waveform inversion, integration of active and passive seismic data for the monitoring of industrial processes, seismic-petrophysical inversion and 2D/3D seismic data processing.

Alfredo Mazzotti has acted as a consultant for the European Commission, the National Research Council, the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research, and the Research Council of Norway.

He has authored more than 170 publications between conference proceedings and peer reviewed papers and has received the EAGE Loran Eotvos Award in 1998 and again in 2006 for the best paper published in Geophysical Prospecting. He is a referee for many scientific journals.

Alfredo is a member of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), and of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). Cofounder and first president of the Italian EAEG-SEG Section.
