MAIN RESEARCH PROJECTS / ACTIVITIES / LABS
Main research activities include experimental and numerical analysis, control of complex flows, wind tunnel tests, high-fidelity simulations, and aerodynamics optimization. Additionally, the focus extends to uncertainty quantification applied to fluid dynamic problems, wind engineering, unsteady aerodynamics, microfluidics for chemical and biomedical applications, hemodynamic studies, thermal management of battery electric vehicles, wind turbines, and combustion processes in perforated burners under premixed conditions.
>10 years of experience in wind tunnel tests, microfluidics, and hemodynamics experiments (utilizing hot-wire anemometry, particle image velocimetry, force and pressure measurements, and flow visualizations).
>10 years of experience in numerical simulations (DNS, LES, RANS) using proprietary, open-source, and commercial codes, sometimes coupled with chemical reactions, conjugate heat transfer, and fluid-structure interaction.
> 6 years of experience in uncertainty quantification and stochastic sensitivity analysis.

ONGOING RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
- Characterization and control of separated flows, along with the development of innovative methods for drag reduction in bluff bodies.
- Study of unsteady aerodynamic flows for wind engineering applications.
- Microfluidic devices for chemical and biomedical applications, involving the design and performance evaluation of micromixers and microreactors. Investigation of devices for microdroplet generation and organs on-chip.
- Conducting numerical simulations, experiments, and uncertainty quantification studies about the hemodynamics of the thoracic aorta. Also, research focused on predicting plaque onset and growth in carotid arteries.
- Wind tunnel tests and multiphysics simulations dedicated to thermal management for the battery pack in battery electric vehicles.
- Research on the dynamic stall of airfoil profiles and the development of wind turbines.
- Characterization and studies on uncertainty quantification of combustion processes in perforated burners operating under premixed conditions.
- Application of machine learning and data assimilation techniques to CFD simulations.
