Adjunct professor of English Language, Culture and Literature at the Department of Civilization and Forms of Knowledge of the University of Pisa, as a cultural journalist and essayist he has covered for over 30 years the fields of cinema, animation and comic art on Italian national press and international websites. Director of DOCartoon, international festival of animated documentary and non-fiction comics, in Pietrasanta, Italy (2011-2014). Curator and consultant, among others he
has coordinated the short films and animation sections of the EuropaCinema international film festival in Viareggio, Italy. He has held for three years the seminar of animated cinema at the University of Pisa, where he has also achieved a PhD in Visual and Perfoming Arts discussing his research on animated documentary.
At the University of Udine he has researched in audiovisual studies, exploring into drawn animation, graphic essays and documentary. In recent years he has given papers and lectured on animation, moving pictures and graphic novels at
international academic conferences organized by universities such as Paris 3-Sorbonne Nouvelle, University of Edinburgh, University of Applied Arts of Vienna and Udine (Film Forum).
He is author of the book Il documentario animato (The animated documentary, Tunué ed., Rome, 2012).
