Research activity of Prof. Pompella has been dedicated to molecular mechanisms, histochemistry and pathophysiologic effects of oxidant stress and lipid peroxidation, with special reference to the roles of glutathione and glutathione-related enzymes. His studies were concerned with the identification in vivo of products of lipid peroxidation, the functions of gamma-glutamyltransferase enzyme activity in cell redox regulation, anticancer drug resistance and progression of atherosclerosis.
