EDUCATION
Ph.D in History of Political Thought (University of Turin, 1997).
Graduate in History (University of Pisa, 1982).
APPOINTMENTS
Since 2002 he is full professor of History of Economic Thought at the University of Pisa.
Before this date, he served as assistant professor at the University of Teramo (1987-1998) and as associate professor at the University of Brescia (1998-2002).
He teaches in undergraduate and graduate courses at the Department of Economics and Management (University of Pisa), and, since 2017, in the PhD programme in Economics of the Universities of Florence, Pisa and Siena.
He has been visiting professor in various universities:
- École Normale Supérieure de Fontenay-St Cloud (1991);
- Université de Lille I (1995);
- Tokyo Metropolitan University (2002);
- Université de Lyon II (2004-2007);
- Yokohama National University (2007-2009);
- Université de Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne (2010; 2018);
- Université Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne (2015).
Between 2004-2017 he has been member of Ph.D jury at the Universities of Paris-I-Panthéon-Sorbonne, Amiens and Lausanne, and at the European University Institute.
Between 2004-2010 he acted as Socrates-Erasmus Coordinator of the Faculty of Economics, University of Pisa.
Between 2005-2011 he was President of the Masters Degree in Systems and Projects of Communication, University of Pisa.
Between 2010-2012 he was delegate of the Rector of the University of Pisa for internationalisation.
Between 2012-2016 he served as vice-rector for communication and internationalisation promotion at the University of Pisa.
RESEARCH
Between 2008-2010 he coordinated, with prof. Elena Carpi, the Italian Partnership of the Erasmus Intensive Programme CoDiME-DIREE Coping with Diversity in Multicultural Europe Diversity as Resource for Economics and Education, P.I. Katholieke Hogeschool Sint-Lieven, Belgium.
Between 2011-2013 he was P.I. of a Lifelong Learning Programme Multilateral Project on EE-T. Economics e-Translations into and from European Languages, An Online Platform (2011-2013).
He was the local unit coordinator of two Research Projects of National Interest (PRIN):
- 1997-1999. Economic associations and economic publishing in 19th-century Italy (University of Teramo);
- 1999-2001. The economists in Parliament in Italy in the liberal age. Between science, politics and public opinion (University of Brescia).
He additionally served as associate coordinator of various PRINs, and co-edited the collections resulting from these projects:
- periodical press and political economy. 18th-19th centuries (1992-1994. PI: Prof. Marco Bianchini, University of Parma);
- Textbooks of economics in Italy in the Liberal age (2003-2005. PI: Prof. Massimo M. Augello, University of Pisa);
- Economics and public opinion in liberal Italy. Economists, economic policy and the daily press" (2010-2011. PI: Prof. Massimo M. Augello, University of Pisa).
Between 2015-2016 he has been PI of a Pisa University Research Project (PRA) on: The circulation of political economy in Europe, 18th-19th century: the Translations of Fénelons Les Aventures de Télémaque.
His main research interests include the relationships between utilitarianism and economics, and the history of Italian economic though.
