Giuseppe Anastasi

Giuseppe Anastasi is a Professor of Computer Science Engineering at the Department of Information Engineering (DII) of the University of Pisa, Italy. He is the Rector's Delegate for Digital Transition. He is also the Director Emeritus of the CrossLab for Digital Transformation, funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) in the framework of the "Departments of Excellence" program. The CrossLab consists of five interdisciplinary and integrated research labs covering all the key areas of the Digital Transformation.

From 2016 to 2020 he was the Head of the Department of Information Engineering (DII) at the Universitity of Pisa. From 2015 to 2018 he also served as the (founding) director of the CINI "Smart Cities" National Lab, a nation-wide competence center on smart cities & communities, consisting of 29 nodes (local labs) located at different Italian universities.

His scientific interests include Internet of Things, Cloud/Edge Computing, Cyber-physical Systems, Cybersecurity, Smart Environments (Smart Cities, Smart Industries, ...) and Quantum Networks. He is a co-editor of two books: Advanced Lectures in Networking (LNCS 2497, Springer, 2002), and Methodologies and Technologies for Networked Enterprises (LNCS 7200, Springer, 2012). He has published 170+ research papers in the area of computer networking and distributed systems. His publications have received more than 12.000 citations, according to Google Scholar (H-index=48). He has been included in the Stanford University's list of the Top 2% of Most Cited Scientists in the World for five years in a row (2020-2024).

Dr. Anastasi served as Program Chair of the IEEE International Conference on Mobile, Sensing, and Networking (MSN 2022). Currently, he is serving as Steering Committee Co-Chair of the IEEE SMARTCOMP conference. In addition, he is a member of the Steering Committee of the CINI National Lab on Smart Cities & Communities.

Previously, he served as: Area Editor of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC, 2007-16); Associate Editor of Sustainable Computing (SUSCOM, 2010-15); Area Editor of Computer Communications (ComCom, 2008-10); General Chair of IEEE SMARTCOMP 2018, IEEE WoWMoM 2005; Program Chair of IEEE SMARTCOMP 2016, IEEE MSN 2015, IFIP/IEEE SustainIT 2012, IEEE PerCom 2010 and IEEE WoWMoM 2008; Vice Program Chair of IEEE MASS 2007. He has co-founded many successful international workshops and conferences.
